The book is an enlarged and updated translation of the author's pioneering work published in French ("Dessins et Peintures des Alienes") and in German ("Zeichnungen und Gemälde der Geisteskranken") in 1956, widely regarded now as a classic. This new English edition has added new dimensions to the field of psychiatry and art. Furthermore, it includes a new clinical case. This case (No. 16) describes a patient who was hospitalized for schizophrenia at age 17. After his discharge he was followed as an outpatient for more than 35 years. He became a professional artist-painter. The author gives a complete analysis regarding her patients whose artworks are interpreted from both psychiatric and artistic point of view.
