Speech perception involves many different processes in the human brain, one of which is the processing of prosodic cues, having the role of segmenting the speech flow at different levels (words, sentences). The book presents theories and empirical findings about the linguistic, psycholinguistic and cognitive background of one of the prosodic cues, word stress. Moreover, it presents the author's own experiments concerning the neural basis of word stress processing, using the method of event related brain potentials.
