Miklós Szilágyi, senior research fellow of the Institute of Etnology at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, discusses in his book the peasant society of a market-town, Kisújszállás, on the Great Hungarian Plain. The ethnographical particularity of this volume is that it publishes 42 hours discourses with a 101 years old farmer recorded on tape between 1988-1993. Blessed with a wonderful memory, Lukács Szabó (1892-1993) speaks about his life from his childhood in the beginning of the 20th century, to the tough measures of the 1950's against the kulaks. Miklós Szilágyi publishes historical and ethnographical facts in the foot-notes to confirm the memories of the elderly gentleman.
