Family Name Changes in Hungary

The Factors and History of Family Name Changes Prevalent in Hungary in the 2^nd Half of the 20^th Century

The present volume attempts to examine and comprehensively interpret the unique and multi-faceted changes in family names in Hungary. It is intended, on the one hand, as an extension to the research field's earlier and most recent research results in family name changes with respect to sources, eras under scrutiny, research methods and results, and, on the other hand, in terms of a comprehensive approach to the phenomenon in general, as a summary thereof. It focuses on a lesser-known era of family name changes in Hungary, the 50-year-long period following World War II, and the corpus of the research is based on the applications for family name changes submitted to the Ministry of Interior Affairs. The volume used the methodology of Onomastics, linguistically-based but open to other disciplines.
