The Spanish language is spoken by about 400 million people all over the world. It is getting increasingly popular in Hungary too. The revision of the previous dictionary compiled by László Gáldi has been necessitated by the huge social, economic and political changes since its first publication. The changes in everyday life have resulted in the expansion of the vocabulary. During the revision work, our primary concern was to include new words and expressions in both Spanish and Hungarian, which reflect the present state of spoken language, as well as to provide collocations and examples that really help active usage. As a result of the revision, the number of entries has increased by nearly 20 per cent to 31,000; in reality, however, the proportion of new entries is far larger since a great deal of dated words, which are no longer used in everyday spoken language, have been discarded.
