In the First Part of this volume (Democracy - Religion) the peculiar phenomenon of the ambivalent party politics in Athens at the end of the 5th century B.C. is firstly examined. In the following essay the author highlights some new facets of politics in the Jesus Movement by analysing relevant passages of the gospels, and he also studies the initial presence of Christianity in the Roman Empire. An Appendix is adjoined with reflections of the ancient historian on the Islam being between religion and politics (this is devoted to the memory of the 11th September 2001). - In the Second Part the author sets about a new periodization scheme for Roman History in special view of the Revolution of the Populares whose cardinal characteristics are pointed out too. Finally he analyses the Hellenic conception of an "Imperial International Law" having been a pre-phenomenon for the Roman-Popular doctrine.
