The research of Hungarian Sign Language (HSL) started quite late, in the 90's. This book is the first monographic treatment of the topic which provides a comprehensive analysis of sublexical level of HSL, but the author examines also morphological and lexical phenomena. With this object she applies not only the descriptive tradition, but also some current phonological models and outlines the anatomical background of the mecahnism of a language in the visual−gesticular modality. Strength of the empirical data and used theories, the basic level of grammar is revealed: the set of cheremes, data about their frequency, and also the phonological rules as well.
