György Borus: The Causes of the Anglo-Dutch Revolution, 1660-1690
The book is the first detailed account of the Glorious Revolution of 1688-89 in Hungarian. For almost three hundred years, the so-called Whig interpretation of the Glorious Revolution prevailed according to which the Catholic James II was dethroned in a national uprising, and the Protestant William of Orange was invited to the throne of England who arrived as a selfless hero and deliverer. By using the latest discoveries of British and Dutch historians, the book re-evaluates the traditional story and interpretation of the Revolution, and traces its causes back to the 1660s. The author argues that without William's determined military intervention there would have been no Revolution, and that without the positive support of the Dutch William's invasion could not have succeeded. Thus, he prefers to call the events of 1688-89 the Anglo-Dutch Revolution.
