This book presents recent advances in the theory of general relativity. The first part contains a detailed review of the equivalence problem and its solution. The key issue here is whether or not two solutions of Einstein's gravitational equations describe identical space-times. The ideas reviewed here are useful for classifying space-times in general relativity, and for construction of new solutions of the Einstein equations. The second part of the volume is devoted to vacuum and perfect fluid space-times. The third part contains results on gravitational waves and on the asymptotic behavior of the field of bounded sources. The expected applications of these results are in the field of detecting gravitational waves.
