The Orthographical Dictionary of Geographical Names

The system of spelling geographical names is denotations are based on the 11th edition of the book of spelling rules by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, but it also considers the so far not regulated spelling types of geographical names which have appeared on maps and in repertories of names published in recent decades. The book of rules concentrates on the introduction to the principles governing the spelling of geographical names and also to the relation between the writing of geographical names and the spelling of common words. Compared to its antecedents it has a much richer illustration of the rules, and users are also provided with an alphabetical index of the examples that appear in the rules. In the appendix attached to the rules we can find information on the alphabetical ordering and abbreviations, we can also read practical advice how to treat dialect words, and a comprehensive survey helps the orientation among the spelling rules referring to the names of settlements.
